When the Dot NET generic top-level domain extension was first set up in 1985, together with the first domains on the Internet, it was planned to be used by Internet Service Providers or infrastructure companies. Considering that there were no special terms about the usage of the TLD, though, .NET domains were obtained and used for diverse purposes and by a huge number of people.
