An access log is a thorough list of all the files which were accessed by the visitors of a particular Internet site. Each and every file which was requested in some way shall be listed, so if you have one webpage with 3 embedded images, one video and one embedded text file, for instance, the access log shall contain a total of 6 entries - one for any of the six files which were accessed when the website visitor opened the webpage. A log typically provides the file name and path, the date, plus the visitor’s OS, Internet browser and IP address. Occasionally you may also find the referrer websites that sent the visitors to your website. The information an access log file contains is in human-readable plain text format. It may be processed by special software on a laptop or computer and used to write reports on the functionality of a website, in addition to the web stats your server may have generated.

Access Log Manager in Hosting

Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel has a section focused on various logs and the access logs are one of them. As you sign in to your hosting account and take a look at this section, you will find a list of all the domain names and subdomains which you have. All it takes to allow the generation of access logs is to click on a button that will be available next to each and every domain/subdomain. In case the option is enabled, you'll see a download link as well as the file size so far, so you shall be able to save the file to your personal computer and view it or process it with some app. Enabling or disabling the logs becomes effective immediately, so if you don't require one, you may stop it with simply a mouse click from the same section of the Control Panel. You'll still have the ability to access the already created content by clicking on the Download link.

Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you host your sites inside a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you'll have the option to enable or deactivate the generation of access logs with no more than a few clicks inside your Hepsia hosting Control Panel. You'll find this function inside the Access/Error Logs section, which you can access when you sign in. All it takes for our system to start creating logs is a single click on the On button that you can see there. The feature can be triggered individually for any website regardless if it uses a domain name or a subdomain and you will find the full list of all the hosts within that section. Any access log can be downloaded as a text file with just a click and you could then see it manually or use some software on your laptop or computer. The log generation can be disabled by simply switching the On option to Off within the Logs section of your CP.
